Hatchet NYC
When Brooklyn firm Hatchet Design Build rebranded as Hatchet NYC in 2020, they reached out to me to build a website that was easy to maintain in-house and incorporated their sleek new branding. I previously worked full-time for Hatchet and actually designed their old Wordpress site in 2017, so I was happy to assist in their fresh start on Squarespace.
The biggest consideration and obstacle in this transition was a new URL - going from hatchetdesignbuild.com to hatchet.nyc. Switching from an established site to a new content manager disrupts a pages rank with the same URL, and if you switch the domain without laying the proper groundwork, you can undo years of SEO work.
Once the site was designed and ready to transfer I took the following steps:
Meta-descriptions which mirrored the old sites key search terms.
Page by page 301 redirect mapping on their domain provider.
Utilizing Google’s change of address tool.
Setting up Google search console for the new domain and requesting they “crawl” the site.
Running a fresh Google Ad Campaign.
Swapping the new domain on Google Analytics.
Changing the URL wherever it is linked on self managed pages and social profiles to the new domain.
