RECO BKLYN
RECO BKLYN initially branded as a local lumber yard that offered custom finishing services - their 2014 HTML site was set up with a priority on slab stock and service pages. In 2019, they wanted to shift that focus to a portfolio based site that prioritized custom high end furniture. While they still offer a selection of live edge slabs, their updated business model required a cleaner design and an easily maintained CMS host.
After comparing A/B design templates from Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1 designs, we landed on what turned out to be one of my favorite templates in Squarespace - a 7.0 template called Hayden. This template allows for beautiful slider headers and utilizes page Indexes - allowing for seamless scrolls between pages. While I typically prefer 7.1 templates which feel more adaptable (basically all 7.1 templates are the same, they just have different designs as starting points) there are a select number of 7.0 templates I stand by specifically for their rigidity and design features.
RECO wanted to keep their slab inventory as an HTML page so we collaborated with an expert to update the design on a separate domain - www.recoslabs.com which is linked from the new RECO BKLYN site.
The best part of building this site was working with my old boss Roger Benton - I was shop manager for RECO between 2015 - 2017, a time in which I learned a lot about sales, project management and local native hardwoods. It was a joy to write copy on a subject I know well that fits the company’s easy going love of craft culture.
